Yesterday, Yuan Longping, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, "the father of hybrid rice", visited Expo Park in Shanghai and visited the Swedish Pavilion and the African Union Pavilion.

As a scientist who made a great contribution to the food and clothing problems of China and even the whole world, Yuan Longping was recognized by many tourists yesterday in Expo Park.

In the joint African Pavilion, Yuan academician arrived at the Madagascar National Pavilion, which doubled its production per mu due to the introduction of its hybrid rice varieties, which was welcomed by the African people.

Encourage young people to try slides

Yesterday, academician Yuan Longping and his party first came to the Swedish National Pavilion in the C area of Expo Park, and Yuan Longping stopped for a long time before introducing the Nobel prize presentation ceremony.

Yuan Lao also showed great interest before the "super signboard" spiral slide of the Swedish Pavilion. The eight year old man did not slide down under the persuasion of his staff, but he still encouraged young people to try it.

At the Swedish Pavilion, he received an exclusive interview with the Morning Post reporter for the World Expo. Yuan Longping said he was very confident of the third generation super hybrid rice displayed in the Expo Park Museum of China.

The number of rice harvested in September will reach 800 kg, far exceeding the average yield of 450 kg of hybrid rice.

Academician Yuan Longping said that on the basis of 800 kilograms per mu, he hoped to reach 900 kilograms per mu in the next few years.

"Yuan Longping!" when the academician Yuan Longping came to the African Union Pavilion, many tourists recognized the scientists, and the tourists shook hands with Yuan Longping voluntarily.

In the joint African Pavilion, Yuan Longping and his colleagues came to the Madagascar National Museum. The National Gallery decorated with golden rice outside the museum has an indissoluble bond with the father of hybrid rice in China.

Rice is the main grain production in Madagascar, an island country in Africa. However, the average yield was only 2.5 tons per hectare, and rice could not be self-sufficient.

Until 2007, Chinese scientists brought 34 hybrid rice varieties to academician Yuan Longping for the country, which resulted in an increase of 51.1% and 114.6% respectively compared with the 2 local varieties. The performance of the yield increase was amazing, which was called "magic rice" by local people in Madagascar.

Yesterday, Yuan Longping was delighted to see the Madagascar people decorate the Madagascar national hall with their hybrid rice. The old man smiled at the golden rice bushes.

"I am very grateful to Mr. Yuan Longping for bringing hybrid rice to Madagascar and improving the lives of our locals."

Catherine, curator of the Madagascar Pavilion.

Today, Yuan Longping will continue to visit Expo Park. He plans to go to the China Pavilion to see the third generation of super hybrid rice.
